Nessus is a multiplatform tool designed for network administrators that allows you to inspect, independent from any operating system used on the computers, any security hole that may exist on a local network or personal computer.
It does so by detecting the presence of a series of already known vulnerabilities that form part of the program’s extensive database of plugins.
The user can define security policies according to his needs and eliminate from these areas that don’t affect the network with which he works – for example, the analysis of UNnix vulnerabilities on a Microsoft Windows network.
The plugins tabs from the create or edit policy option enumerates all the resources that Nessus can process and that pertain to different operating systems, network protocols, firewalls, SGBD, etcetera.
